2015 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT Facelift Spied

Despite giving the SLS AMG a few updates here and there for 2013 (and appending the GT suffix onto the model name), it looks like Mercedes-Benz is working on another round of minor enhancements for its halo car. Our spy shooter caught this lightly camouflaged SLS AMG GT roadster testing in Europe, hiding some changes to the nose.

From what we can see through the mesh covering on the front of this SLS AMG GT mule, the Gullwing will be gaining new lower air intakes. In place of the square intakes the current SLS has, it looks like the car will adopt the more ovoid ones similar to what we've seen on the 2014 E63 AMG and 2014 S63 AMG. The rest of this particular SLS otherwise looks to be unchanged, although we wouldn't be surprised to see some updates to the rear fascia as well.

We're not surprised that Mercedes is only making small changes to the SLS. As we've reported previously, the coupe and roadster are slated to be replaced as soon as the end of next year with a new model. Not only will the SLS AMG's successor eschew the gullwing doors for traditional, front-hinged ones, it will also drop the SLS moniker for either SLC or SLR AMG. No matter the name, the car is expected to be smaller and weigh less than the current SLS and more closely aimed at the Porsche 911. Power will continue to come from a V-8 tuned to either 487 hp (base) or 544 hp (Black Series). Pricing for the new sports car is expected to start around €10,000 ($130,000), and there will only be a fixed-roof coupe this time around.
