2015 Mercedes-Benz SLC AMG Spied at the Nurburgring

Mercedes-Benz is busy readying its Porsche 911-fighter, the 2015 SLC AMG, and our spy shooters spotted the upcoming SLC AMG sports coupe testing at the Nurburgring race track in Germany.

The SLC AMG will be a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car said to be based on the next-generation SL platform that will go up against the legendary 911, the Aston Martin V-8 Vantage, and Bentley Continental GT. The SLC AMG will reportedly replace the large, brutish SLS AMG, as Mercedes is

trying to chase younger buyers with this more reasonably priced, smaller sports coupe. The car in the photos, though heavily disguised, clearly displays the classic long hood, short rear proportions of the SLS. Wide rear haunches flank a fastback coupe-like profile, and the overall look is that of a slightly shrunken, more muscular SLS. A coupe is said to be the sole offering, but there are rumors that a roadster model may be coming as well.

We expect the SLC AMG to feature variants of AMG’s 5.5-liter, twin-turbo V-8 in various states of tune, all the way up to a range-topping Black Series model which could produce more than 600 hp in a lightweight, track-tuned version of the sports coupe. It’s possible that the 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V-8 could stick around for this car, but tight CO2 and emissions regulations in Europe make the slightly more efficient turbocharged engine a more feasible choice.

We like the brute force of the current Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, but we’re looking forward to see how this smaller, nimbler, but still powerful successor turns out. Look for the 2015 Mercedes-Benz SLC AMG to make its debut sometime in late 2014.
