Mercedes-Benz is hard at work building a successor to its CL-Class flagship coupe. With new nomenclature supposedly on the way, the stylish 2015 S-Class Coupe or SLC-Class was just caught testing at a Mercedes development facility in Europe.
The next-gen S-Class Coupe looks to be much more visually striking than the more staid S-Class sedan. Upfront, the coupe sports wide-set headlights with the requisite LED daytime running lights, and a stylish grille similar to that of the upcoming CLA-Class. Other visual features include a long hood and short rear deck, wide-rear taillights that at first glance appear similar to the current E-Class Coupe, and a very high beltline that some say resembles Chevy's Camaro.
The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe will likely share its powertrains with the S-Class sedan. Mercedes' 4.7-liter twin-turbo V-8 and 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-12 will likely carry over from the current CL-Class with minimal changes. Likewise, high-power AMG models should see minor revisions to the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8 and 6.0-liter twin-turbo V-12 models, with all-wheel drive a possibility.
The 2015 Mercedes S-Class Coupe isn’t expected to make its debut until the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.
