2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class Interior Spied

Mercedes GLK Interior 1
Our spy photographers have again captured images of the new 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class, but this time we’ve managed to come away with the first shots of the GLK’s interior. The overall design reflects much of what we have seen in the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and 2015 Mercedes- Benz C-Class sedans.
The 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class cabin expectedly looks a bit narrower and bulkier than in the C-Class on which it is based, but the same flowing, continuous one-piece center console, three-spoke steering wheel, and familiar chrome-ringed air vents are present. Most of the remaining surfaces are camouflaged, but we expect that the same soft-curved styling cues will pervade throughout.
Also consistent with the interior of the next C-Class is the large center-mounted color screen, which is connected to the COMAND infotainment system. The unusually shaped controller will utilize a touch pad that is designed to accept smartphone-like commands and recognize finger-written characters. This system will first debut in the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, which may debut as soon as the 2014 Detroit auto show. Other options such as driver-assist technology are expected to trickle down from the S- and C-Class sedans to the 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class.
Exterior design for the GLK will echo the interior and take on a more rounded shape, departing from the linear and geometric style of the outgoing generation. As we reported previously when the 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class was last spied, it looks like this small crossover will beef up a bit to better accommodate passengers and cargo. This growth makes sense, since the GLK’s larger size will leave room for the forthcoming GLA-Class to slot in below as Mercedes' smallest crossover.
Mercedes-Benz has been tight-lipped about the next GLK, but we do know it will be built from the same platform as the new 2015 C-Class, so we will have a better idea about things like powertrain specifics once the C-Class is made available in the first half of 2014. For now we expect a similar range of gasoline and diesel engines as are available on the current GLK; it's also possible a hybrid variant could arrive in the future.
