Our spy shooter caught the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, just days after Chevrolet officially teased the car and confirmed it will debut in January at the 2014 Detroit auto show.
As in previous spy photos and the aforementioned teaser, the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 seen here wears unique black multispoke wheels that hide enlarged, cross-drilled brake discs. Also visible beneath this prototype's camouflage mesh are the fender air vents that, as seen on the teaser, will likely help keep the faster Corvette's brakes cool during aggressive driving.
Another notably change compared to the standard 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is that the Z06 appears to have a taller hood, perhaps for some sort of bulge or scoop. Although we previously reported the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 might use an updated version of its predecessor's 7.0-liter V-8, our source now suggests the taller hood may be there to accommodate a supercharged version of the Stingray's 6.2-liter V-8. Our source says that engine could be called LT4 and would be capable of 600 to 650 hp.
Also visible are changes to the car's front fascia, likely to add more cooling vents and aerodynamic add-ons, as well as larger openings for the quad exhausts.
Expect General Motors to trickle out more details on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in the next month before the sports car's official debut in Detroit. Production of the car starts in the third quarter of 2014.
