We heard earlier this year that the Toyota FJ Cruiser was on its way out, and now Toyota has confirmed that its uniquely styled off-roader is going out with a bang with the 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser Ultimate Edition. 2014 will be the last model year of the Toyota FJ Cruiser, and the FJ Cruiser Ultimate Edition was just revealed today at the 2013 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas as a limited-run farewell model.
The Toyota FJ Cruiser was introduced in 2006 as an homage to the classic Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser from the 1960s. Toyota says that more than 200,000 FJ Cruisers have been sold over the past seven years, although sales have trickled considerably – for example, only 13,656 were sold in 2012. For what it’s worth, only 2500 copies of the FJ Cruiser Ultimate Edition will be built.
This special version of the 2014 FJ Cruiser is outfitted for off-roading with a suite of Toyota Racing Development (TRD) parts including an off-road suspension, Bilstein shocks with remote reservoirs, a beefier front skid plate, and 16-inch simulated beadlock wheels with off-road BF Goodrich tires. Exterior modifications include rock rails and a roof rack, and on the inside there is a special FJ Cruiser Ultimate Edition stainless steel plaque on the dash.
The standard 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser is already on sale for starting price of $27,990. There is no word on pricing for the FJ Cruiser Ultimate Edition yet, but Toyota says it will be at dealerships in February 2014.
