If you’re expecting big changes for the 2014 Nissan Cube, well, we’re sorry to disappoint. Although the Japanese-market Cube gains a new limited-edition model with a quaint plaid interior, the North American-spec 2014 Nissan Cube – which is now on sale at dealers nationwide -- rolls into the new year with few major changes, including the price tag.
As we previously reported, the 2014 Cube soldiers on with only a color change for the 2014 model year. Brown car connoisseurs will be saddened to learn that the Bitter Chocolate exterior paint color has been dropped in favor of Caspian Sea, a dark turquoise hue reminiscent of the Caribbean Blue Pearl previously offered on Cube models. Power still comes from a 1.8-liter four-cylinder, which sends its 122 hp to the front wheels through either a six-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable transmission.
Nissan applied a mild price hike to the Cube range last year, but pricing for the 2014 Cube is largely unchanged. According to the manufacturer, a 2014 Cube S starts at $17,570, including destination. The $20 jump over a comparable 2013 Cube S is largely attributed to the destination charges, which went from $790 in 2013 to $810 in 2014.
Base 2014 Nissan Cube S models are equipped with a fair amount of standard equipment, including air conditioning, AM/FM/CD audio system with 6-speakers and an iPod interface, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity, power mirrors, windows, and door locks, a leather-wrapped steering wheel. 2014 Cube S models roll on 15-inch steel wheels with hubcaps, and are equipped with a six-speed manual transmission as standard equipment. Buyers looking for an automatic can opt for the CVT for an additional $1000.
That CVT is standard on the 2014 Nissan Cube SL, which starts at $19,670, including destination. The SL trim also throws in 16-inch aluminum wheels, automatic headlamps, automatic climate control, and a passive entry key and push-button ignition. For another $1890, 2014 Nissan Cube SL models can be equipped with the Preferred Package, which adds fog lamps, navigation, rear-view camera, SiriusXM satellite radio, a USB audio input, and an upgraded sound system complete with a Rockford Fosgate subwoofer integrated into the swing-out rear door.
