Mercedes-Benz has announced just how much buyers will pay for the new 2014 E-Class sedan and wagon. Pricing for all versions rises slightly compared to the 2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

The updated 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class was introduced at the Detroit auto show in January. For four-door models, pricing starts at $52,325 (including a $925 destination charge)for the E250 BlueTec diesel; adding 4Matic all-wheel-drive costs another $2500. The E250 BlueTec is powered by a 2.1-liter inline-four turbodiesel engine rated for 195 hp and expected to exceed 40 mpg on the highway. Next up in terms of price is the $52,825 E350 sedan -- an increase of $920 over 2013 E350 sedan prices. It's powered by a 302-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 engine and has a seven-speed automatic transmission. Adding 4Matic all-wheel drive adds $2500 to the cost.

The next step up is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E400 Hybrid, which costs $57,625. It employs a 302-hp 3.5-liter V-6 and 32-hp electric motor, and is available only with rear-wheel drive. The priciest sedan announced so far is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E550 4Matic, which rings in at $62,325. It has a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-8 engine rated for 402 hp.

Wagon fans will note that there is only one five-door version of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class: the E350 4Matic. It packs the same 302-hp V-6 engine as the E350 sedan, but at $59,525, it is $920 more expensive than the 2013 wagon.

Later this year, Mercedes will launch the E63 AMG sedan and wagon. Both are powered by a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-8 engine and come exclusively with 4Matic. The sedan has 550 hp and 531 lb-ft of torque as standard or 577 hp and 590 lb-ft with the optional S-Model. The E63 AMG wagon comes only in S-Model tune. We expect the cars will come in just below $100,000.

Compared to some of its closest rivals, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E350 sedan is about average in terms of pricing and horsepower. As the chart below shows, the Audi A6 and BMW 535i are more expensive, but the Cadillac CTS, Infiniti M37, Jaguar XF 3.0, and Lexus GS350 are much cheaper than the E-Class. In terms of horsepower, the Mercedes beats only the BMW and Cadillac.

Pricing for the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe, convertible, and AMG variants will be announced later this year. The sedan and wagon are on sale now.
