2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG Rated 23/31 MPG by EPA

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG is a high-performance turbocharged sport sedan, and according to the EPA it will be surprisingly efficient as well. The Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG has just received mileage ratings of 23/31/26 mpg city/highway/combined.

These numbers are especially impressive considering that the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG’s high-strung, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine puts out 355 horsepower and 332lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful four-cylinder production car ever. The Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG also comes with Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel-drive system and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission as standard.

If the hotted-up CLA45 AMG seems like overkill, the standard Mercedes-Benz CLA250 with front-wheel-drive has high fuel economy ratings as well, with EPA numbers of 26/38 mpg city/highway. The standard CLA-Class is the least expensive Mercedes-Benz model, starting at $30,825, while the CLA45 AMG is likewise the entry-level AMG model, starting from just $48,375 with destination.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG’s most direct competitor will be the 2015 Audi S3, which has not yet been rated by the EPA. Compared with other small high-performance, turbocharged four-cylinder cars, the CLA45 AMG is among the most efficient. The 256-hp 2013 Volkswagen Golf R is rated at 19/27 mpg, the 291-hp 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution gets 17/22 mpg, and the 305-hp 2014 Subaru WRX STI gets 17/23 mpg city/highway.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG goes on sale this month.
