This crazy-looking 2014 Lexus IS is not the upcoming IS F. Instead, it’s the winner of a Lexus-sponsored design competition put on in partnership with online art community DeviantART.
The competition started as a call for artists to create their vision of the 2014 Lexus IS on DeviantART, an art website that focuses on user-generated content. More than 600 submissions were reviewed by the judging panel which included a representative from Lexus marketing communications, Toyota’s Calty design center, Motor Trend magazine, and California-based design firm VIP Auto Salon. These 600 entries were narrowed down to 25 finalists, and the winning concept from Rob Evans of Seattle will be built by VIP Auto Salon and shown at the SEMA show.
Evans also wins a DeviantART membership with 800 points, $2000, and a one-year lease of a 2014 Lexus IS F Sport. Evans’ Lexus IS design features a wide body kit, large air scoops along the fenders and front fascia, a lowered stance, and menacing-looking wheels to give the IS a significantly more aggressive appearance.
Second- and third-place winners, who also win monetary and DeviantART point prizes, were Lucia Lee of Pasadena, California, and Guanghao Huang from Southfield, Michigan, respectively. Lee’s Lexus IS design is slightly more subtle than Evans’, with a muted grey paint scheme, a sporty body kit, and smoked headlights, and Huang’s design features a low-gloss grey paint job with orange accent stripes, along with special wheels and carbon fiber elements.
