2014 Kia Sportage Gets New Engine, Revised Styling

Kia has slightly revised the 2014 Kia Sportage compact crossover, with a new engine, mildly updated styling, and new comfort and convenience features. The Kia Sportage was redesigned in 2011 and this is the first refresh for the third-generation model.

The biggest change is a new direct-injected 2.4-liter four-cylinder. This engine is essentially the same powertrain that is found in the 2014 Kia Sorento and 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, and Kia says it will give the 2014 Kia Sportage better fuel efficiency than the outgoing model, which achieves EPA ratings of 21/30 mpg city/highway with front-wheel-drive. As before, the 2014 Kia Sportage will be available with either front- or all-wheel drive.

This new engine produces 182 hp (up from 176 hp) and 177 lb-ft of torque (up from 168 lb-ft). The optional 260 hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder available on Sportage SX models is unchanged for 2014. Although the 2013 Sportage was available with a choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, the manual does not return for 2014. The only other mechanical change for 2014 is that the LX model now gains the same high-performance dampers that were previously only on EX and SX models.

The 2014 Sportage also features an updated exterior, with a new grille design, new wheel designs across the range, and available HID headlights and LED taillights. The EX trim receives new fog lamps as well.

On the inside, all Sportage models now have standard rear air vents and reclining outboard seats in addition to a standard tilt and telescope steering wheel. An Infinity premium audio system is now optional, and the navigation system is revised to be compatible with Kia’s UVO voice-command infotainment interface. The gauge cluster is also redesigned, and a 4.2-inch LCD gauge cluster is now optional.

Pricing has not yet been released for the 2014 Kia Sportage.
