2014 Hyundai Genesis Priced at $36,120

All the anticipation may be focused around the completely redesigned 2015 Hyundai Genesis, but the outgoing 2014 Hyundai Genesis sedan does receive some mild updates for its last year before the new model comes out. These changes will be accompanied by a $1000 price increase, bringing the base price to $36,120 (including destination) for a 2014 Genesis 3.8 model.

Updates for the 2014 Hyundai Genesis are include the addition of a service called Hyundai Assurance Connected Care. This uses the existing BlueLink telematics system to provide more features like roadside assistance, vehicle diagnostics, maintenance scheduling, and automatic collision notifications. This program will be standard for three years on all Genesis sedans equipped with BlueLink.

Other changes include standard 18-inch alloy wheels for the Genesis 3.8 model, a heated steering wheel on the Genesis 5.0 R-Spec model, and a new Santiago Silver exterior color that replaces Platinum Metallic. Beneath the surface, Hyundai says the electro-hydraulic power steering on the Genesis 3.8 model has been revised for more efficient operation and better steering feel.

The 2014 Hyundai Genesis comes in two models: the Genesis 3.8 with a 333-hp, 3.8-liter V-6, and the Genesis 5.0 R-Spec with a 429-hp, 5.0-liter V-8. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and power the rear wheels. The Genesis 5.0 R-Spec has a price increase of $600 and now starts at $48,320 with destination.

Fuel economy for the 2014 Hyundai Genesis is slightly down, and Hyundai says this is because both engines were retuned for better throttle response. EPA estimates are down to 18/27 mpg city/highway for the 3.8 model and 15/23 mpg for the 5.0 R-Spec model, a decrease of one mpg on the highway for the V-6 and one mpg in the city and two mpg on the highway for the V-8.

Meanwhile, the completely redesigned 2015 Hyundai Genesis will make its debut at the 2013 Detroit auto show. It feature totally new styling, revised engines, and a redone interior all in a slightly larger package. If you’re looking for a great deal on a midsize luxury sedan, though, the 2014 Hyundai Genesis is on sale now nationwide.
