2014 Ford Fiesta 1.0L EcoBoost Rated At 45 MPG Highway

2014 Ford Fiesta hatchback front three quarter

The 2014 Ford Fiesta will return 32 mpg in the city, 45 mpg on the highway, and 37 mpg combined when equipped with its 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost turbocharged engine, according to EPA testing. That makes it the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid, non-diesel car, in terms of highway mileage, on sale in the U.S. today.

The 2014 Ford Fiesta is the first American-market car to use the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine that has been on sale in Europe for some time. Available only with a six-speed manual transmission, the engine is rated for 123 hp and 125 lb-ft of torque, although an overboost function can provide 145 lb-ft for 15-second bursts. The tiny three-cylinder engine was named International Engine of the Year in June.

The EcoBoost engine significantly improves on the fuel economy of other versions of the 2014 Ford Fiesta, which use a 1.6-liter inline-four engine rated for 120 hp and 112 lb-ft. With the optional Super Fuel Economy package and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, the 2014 Ford Fiesta returns up to 30/41 mpg (city/highway). Models without the SFE package return 29/39 mpg, whether equipped with the automatic or a five-speed manual transmission.

The 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine is only available on 2014 Ford Fiesta SE models, and costs $995. The package also features a trunklid spoiler for sedans, an EcoBoost badge, and 15-inch steel wheels. Pricing for the standard 2014 Ford Fiesta SE sedan starts at $16,245, including destination, while an SE hatchback costs $16,845.

Although the regular 2014 Ford Fiesta is already on sale, Ford doesn't yet have a firm date for when the EcoBoost model will be available. However, a spokesman told us that the fuel-saving model will be on dealer lots before the end of 2013.
