The 2014 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor may be an over-the-top off-road performance truck, but U.S. buyers have taken to the Raptor so enthusiastically that Ford is increasing production capacity for the Raptor at its Dearborn, Michigan plant. Although Ford lumps all F-Series truck sales numbers together, it says that the F-150 SVT Raptor has had record sales highs in eight of the past 10 months.
When the F-150 SVT Raptor was first introduced in 2009, the plant only produced two trucks per hour. After initial demand surged, Ford increased this number to three trucks per hour, and now Ford plans to produce five Ford F-150 SVT Raptor units per hour to match Raptor sales which are up 14 percent in 2013 year-to-date over last year.
The 2014 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is a unique proposition in the pickup world, as it is the only factory-tuned high-performance off-road truck on the market. Available in SuperCab and SuperCrew configurations, the F-150 SVT Raptor comes standard with a 6.2-liter V-8 engine producing 411 hp and 434 lb-ft to all four wheels. For increased off-road performance, the F-150 SVT Raptor is equipped with special Fox off-road racing shocks and 35-inch high-performance BFGoodrich all-terrain tires. Styling-wise, the F-150 SVT Raptor offers a much more aggressive front end than the standard F-150 with what Ford calls a “brick-wall” grille design and oversize skid plates.
The 2014 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor starts at $45,030 with destination for the SuperCab model, with the four-door SuperCrew configuration adding $2900. A new Special Edition has been released for 2014 with a special red paint job, graphics on the cargo box, and special interior trim and upholstery.
