2014 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible Scheduled To Debut In Geneva

A mere two months after the coupe was shown in Detroit, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette convertible will make its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Reports online suggested the topless Corvette was destined for a Geneva debut in March, and Chevrolet representatives confirmed to us that the American sports car will indeed appear at the Swiss auto show.
The news of the convertible doesn't come as a big surprise -- in fact, we'd be more surprised if Chevrolet didn't offer a convertible version of its seventh-generation Corvette. The timing of its auto show debut, too, rings true with historic precedent. When launching the sixth-generation Corvette in 2004, Chevrolet introduced the coupe at the Detroit auto show in January and the convertible at the Geneva show a few months later. Moreover, we knew the car was coming because we spied a Corvette convertible wearing camouflage (pictured above).
Despite confirming that the car will be in Geneva, representatives declined to comment any further on the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette convertible. However, we can expect it to look something like the renderings (below) that already leaked out online. Beneath the metal, look for the same 450-hp, 6.2-liter LT1 V-8 engine, with a choice between a seven-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
Production of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette begins in Bowling Green, Kentucky, this fall. It's not yet clear whether both coupe and convertibles will hit dealers at the same time; the auto-show timing signals to us that the droptop may not arrive in showrooms until a few months after the hardtop model -- possibly not until early 2014.
