2014 Chevrolet Corvette Factory Tours Reopen October 14

Chevrolet will restart factory tours at the Bowling Green, Kentucky, facility that produces the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette, the company announced today. Factory tours and other activities open to the general public were put on hold last summer as Chevrolet spent $131 million retooling the facility to switch from building the old, sixth-generation Corvette to assembling the new C7 model.

The Bowling Green plant has offered various types of tours to the general public since it began building the Chevrolet Corvette in 1981. The current program includes a one-mile walking tour of the assembly line, and costs $7 per person.

"We are delighted to invite the public back into our facility, so we can continue our close-knit customer relationships and educate enthusiasts from around the world about the unique Corvette manufacturing process," plant manager Dave Tatman said in a statement.

With the factory again open to the public, buyers of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette can now participate in three programs that had been postponed during the retooling process. The first is Museum Delivery, a $990 option codenamed R8C and specified when a customer orders his or her Corvette. Buyers receive a tour of the Bowling Green factory and pick up their 2014 Chevrolet Corvette from the adjacent National Corvette Museum. The Corvette Buyers Tour, which costs $800, also allows customers to take an extended tour through the Bowling Green factory. Compared to the standard $7 tour open to the public, this program lets Corvette buyers see more the assembly process. Often, buyers can even watch their future Corvette being assembled on the production line. The final option is the $700 Corvette Photo Album, a 20-page leather-bound book with photos and text showing the process of assembling the buyer's 2014 Chevrolet Corvette.

Pricing for the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette, which has a 6.2-liter V-8 engine good for 455 or 460 hp depending on options, starts at $51,995 for coupes and $56,996 for convertibles, including destination charges.
