TRAVERSE CITY, Michigan – The 2013 Porsche 911 50th anniversary edition would get lost too easily in the crowd of some 800 classic and contemporary cars participating in the 58th annual Porsche Parade. No lime green or flat orange paint jobs; there’s not even a red available on the limited edition model. If you’re one of 600 Americans, 50 Canadians, or 1313 others elsewhere who are lining up to buy the car (yes, that adds up to 1,963) you may choose from black, graphite gray, or Geyser gray (the paint color shown here). It marks the fiftieth anniversary of the unveiling of the iconic sports car.

The full leather interior features handsome houndstooth seat inserts that will make you wonder why Porsche didn’t bring them back earlier. The 2013 Porsche 911 50th anniversary edition comes with 20-inch Fuchs-style wheels, special, but subtle badging, including a “911 50” designation under the special horizontally slatted upper rear fascia, and chrome daylight opening moldings. The 50th anniversary model comes with rear-wheel-drive only despite the wider, Carrera 4 body, and for your $125,450 base price you get thirty extra ponies. The Porsche Power Pack ports the heads and tweaks the ECU, intake and camshafts, raising the 3.8-liter boxer six’s output to 430 hp.

Porsche says the extra power will get you to 60 mph from a stop 0.1-second quicker than the garden variety 400 horsepower model. The 2013 Porsche 911 50th anniversary edition show car at the Porsche Parade has the standard seven-speed manual, though the PDK also is available for this car. As you might imagine, the two thousand Porsche Club of America members gathered here for the annual Parade were highly appreciative of the car’s unveiling ahead of the official Frankfurt launch this September.
