The 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport began rolling off the automaker’s Normal, Illinois assembly line this week. Mitsubishi expects to build up to 70,000 units at the plant after the initial 50,000-unit annual production capacity is reached. Half of the 2013 Outlander Sports built stateside are intended for export.
Outlander Sport production at the Normal, Illinois plant follows the announcement that the Galant sedan, previously built at the facility, has been discontinued. Sales of the midsize Galant waned over the years while the Outlander Sport became Mitsubishi’s bestselling vehicle in North America.

Mitsubishi updated the 2013 Outlander Sport with new chrome surrounds for the grille and fog lights; tweaked front and rear bumpers; black side sills to match the bumpers; and standard 18-inch alloy wheels.
The rear multi-link suspension has been revised to improve handling and ride comfort while the CVT has been recalibrated for better acceleration and feel. Inside, a leather-wrapped shift knob, steering wheel, and Bluetooth are now standard. SE trim adds HID, heated front seats, an upgraded audio system, and push-button start.
The U.S.-built 2013 Outlander Sport, which was named a “Top Safety Pick” by the IIHS, will go on sale in August with a base price of $19,995 including destination.
