2013 Lexus GS Will Debut At Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

Lexus may have already dropped the LF-Gh concept at the New York Auto Show as a teaser, so it’s not exactly a surprise to learn that the finished product -- the 2013 Lexus GS -- will launch soon. In fact, Lexus says the production model will formally debut at the Parc du Concours in Pebble Beach, California, on August 18.

As for what to expect? Well, don’t expect any wild surprises. Sources who’ve seen the production GS in the flesh confirm the car is almost identical in appearance to the LF-Gh concept. Beneath the skin, expect to see some familiar mechanical bits. The GS 350, which will debut in California, uses the same 3.5-liter V-6 engine that’s also found across the Lexus portfolio. At this time, however, don’t look for an eight-cylinder option: we hear that the new GS Hybrid, which pairs that same V-6 with Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system, will be the range-topping model for the foreseeable future.

The biggest changes, according to those at Motor Trend who have sampled the car, will be in driving dynamics and sheet metal. The LF-Gh concept was a dramatic step away from the current model’s looks, but tweaks to the suspension and steering should make the luxury sport sedan feel more refined and agile.

If you’d like your GS sportier still, Lexus will offer an F Sport package. The package doesn’t come with the IS-F’s V-8 but rather features with larger wheels and tires, larger front brakes, and a new four-wheel steering system that can change the toe setting of the rear wheels and improve cornering ability.

The GS will be in dealers in time for the start of the 2013 model year. Look for further details on the car here at Automobile Magazine in the weeks to come.
