2013 Infiniti JX Crossover Previewed by Sketch, Debuts at Pebble Beach

Infiniti plans to expand its vehicle lineup with a new three-row crossover called the JX. Previewed by this sketch, it will go on sale in spring 2012 as a 2013 model.

The JX was styled in keeping with Infiniti’s current design language, which explains the sinusoidal creases and bulging fenders seen in the sketch. It has a swept-back, aerodynamic profile, with darkened B- and C-pillars making for a “floating roof” appearance. The D-pillar bears the same reverse-kink shape that we saw on the Essence and Etherea concept cars. We also expect the JX’s front end will resemble those concepts, with narrow headlights and a small chrome-trimmed grille.

There are few other details for now, but Infiniti says the JX will offer a “stunning” interior with seating for seven, plus the brand’s latest collection of entertainment and safety electronics. It will be larger than the existing EX and FX crossovers, which only have two rows of seats, but possibly smaller than the three-row QX SUV. Infiniti pitches the JX as a luxurious, attractive competitor to the existing “ho-hum” crossovers on sale.

The JX will debut as a concept at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance this August, before appearing at the Los Angeles auto show in production form in November. Infiniti has made it a habit to unveil new products at Pebble Beach, such as when the IPL G Coupe bowed there last summer. More details on the crossover are promised for the Pebble Beach reveal.
