The all-new 2013 Cadillac ATS, along with the 2013 XTS, will be among the first General Motors vehicles to wear Brembo brake calipers that are produced, not in Italy, but the U.S.; the Brembo calipers that will be see on the new ATS and the XTS will be the company’s first U.S.-produced calipers.
Brembo, maker of brakes known for those red and yellow brake calipers that peek through the wheels of many high-performance cars, has recently expanded its presence in the U.S. by adding a production facility in Homer, Michigan, and the first finished products to leave there will be worn by the new Cadillac ATS and the XTS. Brakes for both models will be four-piston, two-piece aluminum calipers designed to reduce weight and drag, with the calipers painted black on the ATS, and black anodized on the XTS.
With its U.S. headquarters in Plymouth, Mich., the Italian company will continue to work closely with partner GM. Other high-performance GM vehicles that wear Brembo calipers are the Cadillac CTS-V, Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and SS, Buick Regal GS, and Chevrolet Corvette ZL1.
