The Environmental Protection Agency has dished up another set of fuel-economy figures for the 2013 Cadillac ATS. This time, the EPA tested the new ATS sports sedan with its 3.6-liter V-6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission. Models equipped with rear-wheel drive will return 19/28 mpg (city/highway), while equipping an ATS with all-wheel drive lowers economy to 18/26 mpg.
The optional V-6 is the most powerful engine choice for the 2013 Cadillac ATS, producing 321 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. We previously learned that the car's base engine, a 2.5-liter inline-four with 202 hp, will return economy of 22/33 mpg. That engine is only offered with an automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.
The only remaining numbers concern the Cadillac's new 2.0-liter turbo-four engine, which is rated for 272 hp and 260 lb-ft. Cadillac expects the turbo engine will account for about half of all 2013 ATS sales; it's available with both rear- and all-wheel drive, and is the only way to equip an ATS with a six-speed manual transmission. Fuel economy for this turbo mill will probably fall in between the ratings for the 2.5-liter and 3.6-liter engines.
So, how does the 2013 Cadillac ATS V-6's fuel economy stack up against its competitors? The 2012 Mercedes-Benz C350 sedan has a 302-hp 3.5-liter V-6 that returns 20/29 mpg with rear-wheel drive. The 2012 Infiniti G37 sedan has a 328-hp 3.7-liter V-6 rated for 19/27 mpg with an automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, or 18/25 mpg with all-wheel drive. And the 2012 Lexus IS350 sedan has a 306-hp 3.5-liter V-6 engine good for 19/27 mpg with rear-wheel drive, and 18/26 mpg with all-wheel drive.
Pricing for the 2013 Cadillac ATS starts at $33,990 (including destination), but opting for the 3.6-liter V-6 engine will set buyers back at least $42,090.
