2013 Cadillac ATS 2.0T Rated at 21/31 MPG

With the 2013 Cadillac ATS rolling into dealerships now, we finally have the full listing of how the baby Caddy's engines will play in the fuel economy arena. The enthusiast's engine choice has achieved an EPA-estimated rating of 21/31 mpg city/highway with rear-wheel drive and an automatic transmission. With that rating, it becomes very clear that the base 2.5-liter four in the ATS is mainly a cost leader – compared with the 2.0T, the 2.5 gains just one mpg in the city and two on the highway. The big 3.6-liter is, unsurprisingly, the thirstiest engine in the ATS portfolio, as it returns just 19/28 mpg. Both the turbo-four and the V-6 are available with all-wheel drive, which drops the 2.0T's numbers by one mpg in the city and on the highway and the 3.6's rating to 18/26 mpg. All numbers are for ATS models equipped with the six-speed automatic; the six-speed manual available in the 2.0T has yet to be tested. Unluckily for Cadillac, that 21/31 number for the ATS 2.0T falls short of the BMW 328i's 23/33 rating when equipped with an eight-speed automatic. However, the ATS 2.0T yields an extra 32 hp from its turbo-four than the BMW. Just because Cadillac's new sport sedan doesn't best the BMW doesn't mean that it's down for the count – the turbo-four ATS has substantially more power than the Lexus IS 250, Mercedes-Benz C250, and Volvo S60 T5 and achieves roughly equal fuel economy numbers. The ATS 2.0T also costs less than all of its competition save the Audi A4 and Volvo S60 T5. Check out the full run down of mpg, power, and pricing figures below. And the BMW requires premium fuel, (unlike the Caddy), so the cost is substantially higher even with the incremental difference in mileage numbers.
