2013-2014 Chevrolet Sonic Recalled For Loose Fuel Tank

The Problem: The metal straps that hold the fuel tanks in place on the 2013-2014 Chevrolet Sonic may not have been welded properly, Chevrolet said today in a statement. That could allow the fuel tank to fall and rest on the exhaust, creating a rattling noise. If the tank falls even further, it could leak fuel and cause a fire. However, Chevrolet says it has no reports of fires caused by this problem, and notes that the majority of affected cars are unsold at dealerships.

The Fix: Chevrolet will inspect the fuel tank straps and, if necessary, repair them with stronger welds.

Number Of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 1558 2013-2014 Chevrolet Sonic sedans and hatchbacks in the U.S., plus another 100 cars in Canada.
