Volvo has revealed pricing and availability numbers for the special Inscription Package that will be offered on the 2012 C70 convertible. The Inscription package costs $3900 on top of the cost of a C70, and production will be limited to just 2000 units globally annually.
The 2012 Volvo C70 starts at $41,325 (including an $875 destination charge), bringing the entry price for a C70 Inscription to $45,225. Of the 2000 annual units produced overall, only 500 Inscription Package cars will be sold in the U.S. Volvo says the limited production run will make “this exemplary automobile” even more desirable.
The Inscription treatment, which was unveiled at the Los Angeles auto show earlier this fall, includes a power upgrade courtesy of Swedish performance company Polestar. A reflashed engine computer brings the turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-five engine’s output to 250 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, increases of 23 hp and 37 lb-ft compared to stock. Even though the updated engine configuration uses richer air-fuel mixtures and more spark advance, Volvo says the C70’s fuel economy ratings of 19/28 mpg (city/highway) are unchanged.
Other upgrades with the Inscription package consist of unique gloss-black 18-inch wheels, chrome-trimmed running lights, adaptive headlights, a new rear spoiler, aluminum pedals, a leather-covered dashboard, and unique Sovereign Hide leather seating. The C70 Inscription is available in only two colors, Ice White or Black Sapphire Metallic.
The 2012 Volvo C70 Inscription goes on sale in the first quarter of 2012. Volvo also offers a $2300 Inscription Package for the S80 sedan, which includes wood-trimmed steering wheel, leather-covered dashboard, Sovereign Hide upholstery, and a leather-and-wood shift knob.
