2012 Saab 9-4X Crossover Priced from $34,205

Weeks after the 2012 Saab 9-4X made its official North American debut at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Swedish automaker announced its new sport crossover will carry a base price of $34,205 (including destination) when it goes on sale early next year.

That price nets buyers a base 9-4x model, which is fitted with front wheel drive, along with a 265-horsepower, direct-injection 3.0-liter V-6. Standard equipment includes 18-inch aluminum wheels, keyless ignition, leatherette seat trim, Bluetooth phone connectivity, and a seven-speaker audio system with a USB input. The 9-4X Premium, which stickers at $38,075, adds a number of goodies (including leather seating and ambient lighting), and is available with Saab's XWD all-wheel-drive system. That Haldex-sourced system is standard equipment on the top-end 9-4X Aero, which is expected to sticker for nearly $48,835. Aero models come with a host of performance-oriented equipment, perhaps most notably the company's 300-horsepower, turbocharged 2.8-liter V-6. 9-4X Aeros also receive 20-inch turbine wheels, adaptive bi-xenon headlamps, and an adaptive damper system. Unsurprisingly, these content levels and price points are fairly similar to those of the 9-4X's corporate cousin, the Cadillac SRX, but it appears the Saab may have a slight pricing advantage. Base 9-4X models appear to undercut the entry-level front-wheel-drive SRX models by $300, while the 9-4X Aero is priced roughly $2200 less than the similar SRX 2.8 Turbo Performance Collection. Saab says the 9-4X, which is built alongside the SRX in General Motors' factory in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, is due to reach dealers this May -- but there appears to be some incentive in ordering early. Customers who place 9-4X pre-orders between January 15 and February 28, 2011, will receive an Apple iPad free of charge.
