And just about any automaker of note was present at the show in force. Automakers set up "temporary" pavilions two stories or larger, showing their latest vehicles, as well as paying homage to their racing heritage, which is a big part of the Goodwood experience and mystique.

Among some of the noteworthy debuts and spectacles at Goodwood this year was the Nissan reverse record attempt in its Leaf electric vehicle. Driver Terry Grant accomplished his goal by posting a time of 1 minute and 57 seconds up the Goodwood Hill. We've included a brief video clip below on this record-setting run.

Aston Martin also used the occasion to show its successor to the DBS, the Vanquish, to event attendees. Aston Martin's Vantage GTE, which came in third in class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, also made a run up the hill.

McLaren showed an updated version of its MP4-12C outfitted in a Union Jack graphics scheme to promote the UK's GREAT campaign aimed and promoting tourism, trade and education.

Famed British sports car maker Lotus was honored with a sculpture featuring six cars arranged on an "infinity" track, and a total of six batch runs were dedicated to the different time periods for the 60 year-old marque.

In addition to the number of vintage models at the event, Ferrari used the occasion to debut the 458 Spider and California 30, an updated version of its front-engine convertible, which now produces 490 hp, up 30 (hence the name) from its predecessor.

Without further ado, please enjoy some of the sights and sounds of Goodwood 2012.
