For the most part, Facebook posts are hit or miss. The 2012 Audi S5 Special Edition, which was posted on the automaker’s Facebook wall, is definitely a hit, with over 11,600 “likes” as of this writing.
So what is it exactly? For starters, only 125 copies will be made, so not only is it special, but it’s highly exclusive. Audi enthusiast site Fourtitude provides more details, including the exclusive Daytona Grey exterior paint and 19-inch, 5-spoke Rotor-style wheels, both of which are usually reserved for RS models. The interior is a mix of contrasting Polar Silver and black leather and stitching, while floor mats get a contrasting silver leather border. Rounding off the interior touches are “Audi Exclusive” badges, carbon fiber trim, and a piano black instrument cluster, a feature only found on RS5 models sold outside of the States.
Everything stays the same under the hood, which means it’ll be powered by the soon-departing 4.2-liter, 354-hp, V-8 mated to a six-speed manual or Audi’s seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. As expected, this special edition model likely marks the end of the S5 coupe as we see it now. The V-8 powerplant will remain only in the upcoming RS5 in a higher-horse tune, and in its place will be the supercharged, 333-hp, V6 currently used in the S5 cabriolet.
