2012 Audi R8 GT Gets Price Tag of $198,050, on 90 Bound for U.S.

#Audi, #R8

Audi has had a hit on its hands with the R8 supercar. Tossing a Lamborghini-derived V-10 into the car wasn’t enough for the brand from Inglostat, so it upped the power and dropped the weight to make the hardcore R8 GT. Now, the R8 GT has a price tag.

The starting price for the 2012 Audi R8 GT is $198,050, including a $1250 destination charge; that chunk of change doesn’t include whatever the gas guzzler and other taxes may be -- on the lesser R8 with the 5.2-liter V-10 the guzzler tax costs $2100 for the R-Tronic automated manual transmission, and a healthy $3000 for manual transmissions.

The GT’s price tag is an additional $40,200 over the R8 5.2 with R-Tronic, which is the only available transmission on the GT. The 5.2-liter V-10 has been massaged to gain 35 more, bringing the grand total of 560 horsepower. Combined with some serious weight reduction -- at 3535 pounds, the GT is approximately 180 pounds lighter than the 5.2 -- it achieves 0 to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 199 mph. The weight savings are made my extensive use of carbon fiber and aluminum throughout the body and components, which also help to lower the R8 GT’s center of gravity as well. Quattro all-wheel drive is standard

If you want (and can afford) an R8 GT, good luck getting one. Audi is only producing 333 units of the GT, with only 90 of those coming stateside.
