2011 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 earn Top Pick from IIHS

The 2011 Dodge Charger and 2011 Chrysler 300 are now not only stylish, but also safe. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recently named both large sedans as Top Safety Picks -- an honor previously never bestowed upon the duo.

According to the IIHS, Chrysler was able to “significantly improve the safety performance” of both the Charger and the 300 when compared to the 2010 models. In fact, the 2010 models had been ranked as bottom-of-the-barrel with the second-lowest rating of their class in side impact protection.

Rear crash protection has also catapulted up from being only marginal, and under the IIHS’ new roof strength test, the Charger was able to withstand up to 5.37 times its weight. Lastly, but not least importantly, electronic stability control is no longer optional, but standard across the Charger and 300 lines.

The 2011 Charger and the 2011 300 join the Chrysler 200, the Dodge Avenger and Journey, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Patriot bringing Chrysler a total of seven vehicles rated as top safety picks.
