2011 Chrysler Town & Country Receives New Look, Interior, and Engine

Let the minivan wars begin. After watching Toyota, Honda, and Nissan preview revamped vans over the past several months, Chrysler finally unveiled its updated 2011 Town & Country for the world to see.

Predictably, the Town & Country receives a few cosmetic updates to bring it in-line with its updated siblings. The brand's new grille sits front and center, as does the elongated Chrysler wing emblem. A new front bumper fascia, complete with slender chrome accents and projector fog lamps, is also part of the exterior refresh, as are revamped tail lamps and new wheel patterns.

We're most interested to see the Town & Country's interior, seeing as Chrysler's design team has promised us nothing short of a revolution within its new vehicles. The 2011 Town & Country receives a thoroughly revamped interior, complete with a restyled instrument panel, new leather and cloth seating choices, and soft touch trim on both armrests and door panels. Expect both the flip-and-fold Stow 'n Go and rotating Swivel 'n Go seating configurations to remain available on 2011 models.

Thankfully, this makeover isn't only skin-deep. Although 2010 models were available with three different V-6 engines, the 2011 Town & Country is fitted with Chrysler's new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 and a six-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment. Rated at 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, the Pentastar eclipses last year's 4.0-liter V-6, which produced only 251 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque.

Content levels and options have yet to be released in their entirety, but Chrysler does note that its SafetyTec package, which combines blind spot monitors and rear cross-path detection, is now standard for 2011. Previously, the package was available as a $995 option on select models.

Chrysler has yet to publically unveil the new Town & Country at an auto show, but spokeswoman Kathy Graham tells us the updated van should be rolling into dealers in the fourth quarter of 2010.
