Although it's hard to see, this simple sketch and blurry photo are our first glimpses at the next-generation 2010 Opel Astra hatchback, which will be unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show.
Released by GM's PR office, the sketch is more artistic than revealing.; That said, we can expect to see a raked greenhouse, coupled with an all-new front fascia design.; Judging by the photo (especially from the sketches shown on the billboard), that fascia may be more pointed and aggressive than previous Opel designs.
Opel says to expect a number of premium features on the car, including a flexible cargo rack system, adaptive front lighting, and the Insignia's Front Camera System, which acts as a form of lane departure warning.
Will Americans see these features in the future?; That depends.; Although the Astra will certainly return to our shores as a Saturn, there's still debate within GM on balancing equipment levels and profit margins.; Although the current Astra is relatively basic, the cost of importing the car from Belgium has driven prices up and profits down.
That could change in 2011, when the next Saturn Astra is expected to debut.; Instead of importing the car from Europe, U.S.-bound cars are expected to be built in Mexico.
