2010 Models Added to OnStar Mobile App Compatibility, Retail Product Named

In a significant update to the 15 year-old technology brand, General Motors’ recently-introduced OnStar’s mobile app has been downloaded by more than 56,000 active users, with more than 1.3 million total interactions.

General Motors is adding 14 models from Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac’s 2010 lineups that will allow users to download vehicle data and more to their mobile devices. Currently, Chevrolet Cruze and Silverado drivers use the app most frequently.

In addition to expanded mobile app coverage, customers of non-GM or older GM vehicles can benefit from OnStar service with the brand’s new FMV rearview mirror module. First announced at this year’s Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas, the module includes built-in capability for automatic crash response, turn-by-turn navigation, stolen vehicle assistance, and Bluetooth hands-free calling.

The module will first be offered through Best Buy stores, and eventually offered through other retail channels. A range of service plans will be offered, starting at $18.95 a month, or $199 a year. The cost of the module itself is $299, plus installation.
