Kia has announced pricing of its all-new compact sedan, the 2010 Kia Forte, revealing that the Spectra replacement will cost just $190 more than the outgoing model.
The 2010 Kia Forte sedan will be available in three trims, starting with the $14,390 LX (all prices include destination charges.) The swankier EX begins at $16,490, and the sportier SX can be had for $17,890.
The LX and EX are available with only one powertrain, a 156-horsepower four-cylinder engine pared with a 5-speed manual transmission (a four-speed automatic is a $1000 option). The SX sports a 173-horsepower four-cylinder mated to a six-speed manual (with an optional 5-speed automatic available for $1000,) and a sport-tuned suspension.
All Forte sedans come with a bevy of safety features, including antilock brakes, electronic stability control, traction control, brake assist, six airbags (front, side and full-length curtain), active headrests for front occupants, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
LX and EX models come standard with 15-inch tires (the EX can be upgraded to 16-inch tires), while the SX is equipped with 17-inch tires. EX and SX models come with dual, body-colored heated power mirrors, and the EX has front fog lights.
Inside, the LX is equipped with an AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system with SIRIUS satellite radio capability (with a separate subscription to the service) and four speakers, plus USB and auxiliary input jacks, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, a tilt steering column, and a six-way manually adjustable driver's seat. A convenience package adds air conditioning, along with a split-folding rear seat.
Most buyers will find themselves considering the EX, which gets an upgraded audio system with six speakers, power windows and door locks, remote keyless entry, and cruise control added to its standard features list. A sunroof, leather seats, heated front seats and a windshield de-icer are available options, while a fuel economy package switches equips the EX with a 5-speed automatic transmission, aerodynamic enhancements and low-rolling-resistance tires.
SX buyers will be pampered with a tilt and telescoping steering column, sport cloth seats, metal pedals and metal-finish interior accents, and a leather wrapped steering wheel. Leather seating, heated front seats, and windshield de-icer are part of an optional leather package.
Although a coupe version, the 2010 Kia Forte Koup, is also coming stateside, there's no word yet on when it will arrive. The 2010 Kia Forte sedan will be available early this summer.
