2010 Hennessey HPE550 Camaro

#GM, #Camaro

GM may not build a new Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, but the folks at Hennessey Performance Engineering have a suitable substitute: The 2010 HPE550 Camaro.

The HPE550 uses a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8, similar to what GM was reportedly planning for the reincarnated Z/28. Hennessey starts with a stock 420-hp LS3 engine, adds a supercharger, Corsa exhaust system, and a reprogrammed engine computer module. These changes allow the LS3 to produce a monstrous 562 hp and 557 lb-ft of torque.

As could be expected, this jump in power makes for some pretty impressive performance numbers. Hennessey reports the HPE550 Camaro will do the 0-60 mph run in 4.1 seconds, and pass through a quarter mile in 12.1 seconds at 119 mph—faster than the new 2010 Mustang GT500. If that isn’t enough, the tuning firm plans on offering even hotter versions, including a 1000-hp twin-turbocharged model.

But Hennessey doesn’t resign itself to only adding power. The HPE550 also receives an adjustable coilover suspension, which helps support a new set of lightweight 20-inch wheels. Camaro fans will also notice the graphics package, which is almost an exact replica of the side stripes used on Don Yenko’s modified sYc Camaros.

Want one? The HPE550 Camaro is currently available via select Chevy dealers, as well as from HPE itself starting at $59,500. All buyers will receive a half-day performance driving course at a facility adjacent to Hennesey’s headquarters in Houston, Texas.
