2009 Ford Ka Front View

Some information on the 2009 Ford Ka was released last night, but the full details won't be available until the Paris motor show this October. Right now all we can do is look at the official images and make educated guesses about what lies under the sheetmetal.

Rumors indicate Ford will power the Ka with Fiat 500 engines (the Ka is a reskinned Fiat 500 at heart) ranging from a 1.3-liter diesel to 1.2- or 1.4-liter gas engines. A SportKa may be in the cards and could use the turbocharged 1.4-liter mill found in an Abarth 500. Ford engineers have reportedly spent lots of time modifying the Ka's suspension to make it ride and handle like a European Ford, not a rebadged Fiat 500.

The Ka has been a chunky, cheeky city car since it debuted at the 1996 Paris motor show. Ford has more than 1.4 million Kas on the road now, so the 2009 Ka has a lot to live up to. The new sheetmetal and updated interior look much more contemporary than the original Ka design. Europeans will also recognize the face of the Ka as a Ford instantly, it shares the design of the Mondeo, Focus, and Fiesta and uses the design language quite well.

The Ka should start around £7500 and will only be available in Europe.
