2009 Ford Fiesta Sedan

We've heard the 'global car' catchphrase applied numerous times, but the 2010 Ford Fiesta may truly be that. After launching the three- and five-door hatchbacks in Europe earlier this year, Ford took the wraps off a production four-door sedan version at an auto show in Guangzhou, China.

If it looks familiar, it should - Ford showcased a four-door version of its Verve concept at the Guangzhou show last year, and hinted it would be put into production soon. It wasn't kidding - though it's a bit tame compared to the wild concept, much of the show car's styling carries through to production. "We set out to design a truly exciting, desirable small car that exceeds all expectations. Today, we are keeping our promise that was made with the Verve Concept notchback last year," said Chelsia Lau, chief designer of China/ASEAN Programs, Ford Motor Company. While some automotive critics doubt the style choices of the Fiesta, what is undeniable is China's significant role in the Fiesta's release. Not only will this car be manufactured for China in China, but it's the first market that receives the sedan (the U.S. should get it around 2010), cementing the nation's growing importance in the ever-changing auto industry. "Launching the all-new Fiesta sedan to the world in China signals the importance of China and the Asian region in Ford's global strategy, " said John Parker, Ford’s executive vice president of Asia Pacific and African operations.
