Final 2015 Ford Mustang 50 Years Limited Edition Headed to Auction

With production of the 2015 Ford Mustang now underway, Ford today announced that it will sell a unique copy of the new car at auction. The final, 1964th example of the cars special 50 Years Limited Edition model will be sold at a Barrett-Jackson auction in Las Vegas over the weekend of September 25-27. All proceeds from the sale will go the Henry Ford Health System's Heart and Vascular Institute.

The 2015 Ford Mustang is offered with a 50 Years Limited Edition model to celebrate the car's half-century of production. Just 1964 examples of the car will be built, to commemorate the fact that the first Mustang launched in 1964. Based on a 2015 Ford Mustang GT, the 50 Years model is available only in Kona Blue or Wimbledon White paint, and comes with visual tweaks like additional chrome exterior trim, louvered quarter windows, special aluminum dashboard trim pieces, and the Mustang GT's optional Performance Package as standard.

The winner of the 2015 Ford Mustang auction not only receives the car, but also the chance to attend the Ford Championship Weekend NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide, and Camping World Truck Series races at Homestead-Miami Speedway. A pre-production 2015 Ford Mustang 50 Years will serve as the races' pace car.

The final options for the winning bidder are to have the prize car converted so it resembles the aforementioned pace car, or to have a supercharger installed for free to increase its horsepower.

This isn't the first time a 2015 Ford Mustang has been offered up for charity auction. In January, the first new Mustang GT was sold at a Barrett-Jackson auction in Arizona. In the spring, a unique 50 Years edition Mustang convertible was raffled off with proceeds benefitting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

I hate to correct your article....but since I just ordered a new 2015 Mustang GT....I can tell you that the 50 Year Anniversary Edition DOES NOT come with the "Performance Package" as standard(or optional). In fact.....if you order the 50 Year Edition you CAN NOT get the "Performance Package"(a.k.a Track Package) at all. Just a little FYI from someone that just filled out a build sheet.

@Darrell E. Smith You are correct, however the 50 Year Limited Edition Package includes the vast majority of the hardware which is included in the "Performance Package" (can you say redundant).  Ordering the 50 Year Limited Edition with the Performance Package is not necessary.  I just checked the order guide.
