Will the Next Aston Martin Be Called the DB10?

Aston Martin is moving forward with plans to introduce a new generation of British luxury and sports cars borne from the fruit of collaboration with Mercedes-AMG. Days after new broke that AMG would increase its stake in Aston Martin to five percent, Autocar now reports that the British automaker is busy acquiring trademarks for DB10 through DB14 names, one of which could grace the DB9 successor that will be co-developed by Aston and AMG.

The new Aston Martin will surely bear some sort of DB designation, but it is still unclear which one. Autocar reports that DB10 is the most likely contender given the brand’s history of advancing its numerical designations over time -- DB7 gave way to DB9 (pictured), for instance -- but apparently some executives are not ready to relinquish the DB9 moniker just yet.

"It’ll definitely be a DB, but what number will follow, that is yet to be decided," Aston Martin design director Mark Reichman told Autocar. Rumored to launch in 2016, Aston Martin’s newly styled replacement for the old VH-platform DB9 will feature a twin-turbo AMG V-8 housed within Mercedes-Benz’s upcoming modular sports car architecture (MSA). As European bureau chief Georg Kacher reported back in March of this year, Mercedes’ MSA will also underpin the next-generation SLK and SL luxury sports cars due in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

Aston Martin stands to benefit from many of MSA’s advantages, including its impressible variability. Although there are certain fixed points such as the front firewall and suspension arrangement, the platform is compatible with a soft-top, a retractable hardtop, a four-seat coupe layout, or with various modern powertrain and technology developments like all-wheel drive, plug-in hybrids, or autonomous systems. The MSA platform will likely be used for many of Aston Martin’s upcoming models, including a possible production version of the Lagonda SUV.

They just keep making the same and same car. Its getting really annoying and id say the best car they got is probably the 0-77.

no one cares for the names...put a v12, make it look great and leave that signature sound that makes an Aston great and your recipe is finished
