Dodge Challenger SRT Race Car Debuts in Trans Am Series

SRT Hellcat mania migrates to the racetrack this weekend as two new Dodge Challenger SRT race cars head to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course to race in the Trans Am Series. Miller Racing is fielding these two new race cars, with four-time series champion Tommy Kendall making his re-entrance into the Trans Am world as he drives in the TA2 class for the first time since 2004.

Kendall will be behind the wheel of the Number 11 Dodge Challenger SRT racer, while the Number 1 car will be piloted by Cameron Lawrence, who won the Mid-Ohio Trans Am race last year. Both cars feature a naturally aspirated, 6.3-liter V-8 engine pumping out 499 hp through a four-speed manual transmission. Yes, that’s less power than the street-legal, 707-hp 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, but the Challenger SRT race car makes up for its horsepower deficit with its significantly lighter weight thanks to its fiberglass body and completely stripped-out interior.

The Dodge Challenger SRT race car retains most of the mean-looking retro cues of the standard Challenger, with the fiberglass panels in the front and rear mimicking the quad headlights and full-length taillights of the street car. Huge, 22-inch Hoosier racing tires wrap around 15-inch Bassett racing wheels, and the Challenger SRT race car features adjustable Ohlins dampers and Stop-Tech four-piston brakes front and rear.

Stay tuned to this weekend’s race at the Mid-Ohio racetrack in Lexington, Ohio to see these two Dodge Challenger SRT race cars make their debut in the Trans Am series.

Hope they shaved about 50K lbs off of the street version or else this thing needs to stay on a straight track.
