Watch This Hennessey HPE700 Chevrolet Corvette Do a Roaring Burnout

John Hennessey not only builds the most powerful and outrageous tuner cars, but he also likes to put their chops to the test. Lucky for us, he filmed his latest drive in the 700-hp Hennessey HPE700 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. If you’ve got good headphones, now’s the time to use them.

Rasping and rumbling under the hood of the Hennessey HPE700 2014 Chevrolet Corvette is a supercharged version of the already-delightful 460-hp, 6.2-liter V-8 engine. In addition to 7 psi of forced induction boost, the HPE700 kit adds a new intake and exhaust, ported cylinder heads, beefed-up custom camshaft, new headers, lighter wheels that save 17 pounds compared to the stock Chevrolet ones, and carbon-fiber aerodynamic add-ons. The carbon front splitter and side pieces not only reduce drag, but they also increase downforce to keep the 700-hp Hennessey HPE700 2014 Chevrolet Corvette good and planted to execute its tire-screeching deeds.

Hennessey launches the car easily to 138 mph (it’s capable of over 200 mph) and soon after executes a textbook burnout that sends smoke billowing from the rear tires. “This thing is just a kick in the ass to drive,” says Hennessey. “Angry! Hear me roar!”

Other Hennessey packages for the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette include the HPE600 kit, which John Hennessey fitted with a 100-hp nitrous package and passed 200 mph on a closed Texas highway. There is also a naturally aspirated HPE500 kit, a twin-turbo HPE800 package good for 800 hp, and a wild HPE1000 which adds electronic turbocharger boost control that is said to help the V-8 produce 1000 hp.

The Hennessey HPE700 kit costs $22,500, and can be fitted to Corvette Stingray models with either a 7-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. For the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette which will gain an 8-speed automatic, the package will most likely be available as well. “We’re expecting it to be compatible, but we’re yet to get one in for testing,” Hennessey told Automobile. The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette starts at $51,995.
