Subaru Recalls 2003-2004 Outback, Legacy, Impreza Over Takata Airbags

2003-2004 Subaru Outback, Legacy, Impreza, Baja
The Problem:
A defect with the passenger airbags, which were sourced from Japanese supplier Takata, could cause the inflator to rupture, potentially sending shrapnel toward the passenger in an accident. Chevrolet, Honda, Nissan, and Mazda have already recalled cars for problems with Takata-sourced airbags.

The Fix: Subaru plans to replace the Takata airbags in all affected cars for free, but doesn't yet have a timeline for when replacement parts will be available.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 8557 2003-2004 Subaru Outback, Legacy, Impreza, and Baja models in the U.S.

2013-2014 Ford Taurus, Interceptor, Flex, Lincoln MKS, Lincoln MKT; 2012-2014 Ford Edge; 2014 Lincoln MKX
The Problem:
A clip that attaches the right-hand front half shaft may come loose, eventually allowing the half shaft to separate. That would prevent the car from driving, and if it were left in Park without the parking brake applied, the car could roll away. Ford says it has no reports of injuries due to this problem.

The Fix: Dealers will inspect the right-hand half shaft to see if it is separating, and if so, will replace the shaft and its attachments.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 83,250 vehicles in the U.S.

2014 Ford Escape
The Problem:
On models of the 2014 Ford Escape equipped with a panoramic glass roof, the glass panel may not have been adequately bonded to its attachment bracket. That could allow water to leak into the Escape, and could allow the glass panel to separate from the car at speed.

The Fix: Dealers will check the build date code on 2014 Ford Escape models to see whether the panoramic roof panel needs to be replaced.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 1870 2014 Ford Escape crossovers in the U.S.

2014 Ford Fiesta
The Problem:
Some 2014 Ford Fiesta fuel tanks were built incorrectly by a supplier. The tanks may not have an adhesive layer that helps seal the tank, meaning fuel could leak out. Although Ford has no reports of fires, the automaker cautions that a fire could start if fuel leaked onto a hot part like the exhaust.

The Fix: Dealers will replace the fuel tank on affected 2014 Ford Fiesta models for free.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 175 2014 Ford Fiesta sedans and hatchbacks in the U.S.
