Callaway Chevrolet Corvette SC627 Makes 627 HP

Tuner Callaway Cars revealed that its new supercharged package helps the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray make almost as much power as the 2015 Z06. The Callaway SC627 package is officially rated at 627 hp and 610 lb-ft of torque.

Those figures have been SAE-certified, and represent improvements of 167-172 hp and 145-150 lb-ft, depending on whether or not the standard 2014 Chevrolet Corvette is equipped with its optional sports exhaust. Callaway points out that the engine upgrade doesn't simply provide small doses of extra power; from 2000 rpm all the way to redline, the engine is claimed to offer more power and torque than the stock Corvette's LT1 V-8.

With those ratings, the Callaway Corvette is also extremely close in terms of horsepower to the 650-hp 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. However, Callaway's model does without the chassis and handling upgrades that Chevrolet bestowed upon the Z06.

To extract those gains from the 6.2-liter V-8 in a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette, Callaway adds a new intake, a new exhaust, and a supercharger with integrated intercoolers. The company leaves a hole in the Corvette's hood so that the top of the supercharger peeks out. It's claimed to be for additional cooling, but we bet the cool looks play a factor, too.

The Callaway SC627 conversion costs $22,995, atop the cost of buying your own 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. In addition to the engine upgrades, the package also includes anodized-silver door-sill plates, new interior and exterior Callaway badges, and an underhood VIN plaque certifying that it's an official Callaway car. The 2014 Callaway Corvette SC627 is on sale now.

Previous high-performance creations from Callaway include a tuned version of the Camaro Z/28 that produces 652 hp, and the AeroWagon body conversion that turns the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette into a shooting brake.
