2016 Chevrolet Camaro Spied For the First Time

Well, that didn't take long. Just a few weeks after we published our sneak preview of the upcoming 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, our spy photographers nabbed it out testing. The swirly camouflage and black wrapping is fairly comprehensive, but a closer look reveals at least a few things that match up with our rendering and speculation.
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro looks to keep the overall shape and proportions of the outgoing model, although many of the 1970s, retro-inspired cues we'd hoped for may actually come to fruition in the future musclecar. Horizontal shapes will continue to hold true up front, but we could see more aggressive styling than before. In profile the A-pillar looks to be more sharply angled than before, as it leads into a redesigned window setup which could in many ways resemble our illustrator's predictions.

The rear section of the window is well protected from view, but the 1970 ½-style two-window daylight opening, with no B-pillar and a thick semi-fastback C-pillar, is a distinct possibility. Huge wheels are definitely on the menu for the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, as are fearsome quad exhausts positioned under what look like larger versions of the current car's rectangular taillights.
What we do know for sure is that the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will ride on the long-wheelbase version of GM's Alpha platform. Dimensions should be similar to the outgoing Camaro, and we'll surely see Chevrolet continue to offer the existing 3.6-liter V-6 as well as the small-block V-8 for the SS model and high-performance variants. To combat the 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will also come with its first ever turbocharged four-cylinder engine, namely the 272-hp 2.0-liter found in the Cadillac ATS. The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is expected to launch next year.
Check back soon for more details on the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro as GM gears up to face off with the Ford Mustang and recently refreshed Dodge Challenger. With the Mustang on the horizon and the new Challenger Hellcat blowing everyone's minds with its 707-hp engine and awfully tempting price tag, the musclecar war is alive and well here at home.
