2015 Toyota Yaris Refreshed

Fans of the Toyota Yaris receive quite the treat for the 2015 model year, as the subcompact hatchback receives a thorough visual refresh and some minor mechanical changes.

Changes to the outside of the 2015 Toyota Yaris start with a dramatic new front fascia, which has a prominent black mesh opening below a chrome trim piece that runs between the headlights. The car's inside isn't dramatically changed, but the dashboard and center stack have been slightly restyled and higher-quality, softer materials are used. Toyota says that there is now more sound insulation to keep the car quieter.

Also new for the 2015 Toyota Yaris are suspension changes said to improve the ride and handling, updates to stiffen the body, and subtle aerodynamic tweaks. What's not new is the powertrain. A 106-hp, 1.5-liter inline-four remains the lone engine choice, with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission both available. The clutch hydraulic mechanism has been revised, which Toyota says makes for "smoother" shifting.

As with last year's version, the 2015 Toyota Yaris is offered as either a two- or four-door hatchback, and in three trim levels with no options packages. The base L includes air conditioning, 15-inch steel wheels, power windows and locks, and Toyota's Entune touchscreen radio. The Yaris L costs $15,670 (after an $825 destination charge) for a two-door manual, $16,395 for a two-door automatic, and $16,770 for a four-door automatic.

Stepping up to the 2015 Toyota Yaris LE nets shoppers cruise control, power mirrors, steering-wheel audio controls, keyless entry, an immobilizer, and 15-inch alloy wheels. The trim level costs $17,330 for a two-door model with an automatic transmission, and $17,705 for a four-door. Finally, the 2015 Toyota Yaris SE gives buyers a tachometer, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and shift knob, larger front brakes, larger anti-roll bars, LED running lights, fog lights, a rear spoiler, and 16-inch alloy wheels. It costs $17,645 as a two-door model and $18,445 as a four-door.
