2015 Cadillac ATS-V Spied A Little More Naked On Nurburgring

BMW M3, it’s coming for you. That’s right, the 2015 Cadillac ATS-V is on its way, and spy photographers caught the best look yet at the high-powered sport sedan as it tore through the Nürburgring racetrack.

Although we’d snapped shots of the 2015 Cadillac ATS-V sedan and coupe testing before, black vinyl wrapping obscured our views of the front and rear ends. Now we can see for certain that the ATS-V will benefit from a fleshed-out aerodynamics package, including an extended front spoiler, large-and-in-charge front intakes, and a prominent hood bulge for the upgraded engine. Flared side skirts and a new rear bumper are also part of the high-performance package, which is finished off with a trunk-mounted spoiler.

We can also make out no-nonsense performance tires on the 2015 Cadillac ATS-V prototype’s black wheels. Behind the multispoke units are what appear to be brawnier brake calipers and rotors, while menacing quad exhaust ports lurk around the rear.

The hood bulge could lead some to speculate that the 2015 Cadillac ATS-V will get a larger-displacement engine than the 2.5-liter inline-four, 2.0-liter turbo-four, and 3.6-liter V-6 engines in the standard ATS, or perhaps that the swollen hood makes room for a supercharger. We, however, are still banking on a twin-turbo V-6 powerplant producing at least 425 hp (which would match the 2015 BMW M3/M4's output). However the jury is still out on exactly what V-6 we’ll see—one option is of course the 420-hp 3.6-liter twin-turbo V-6 found in the Cadillac CTS Vsport, although we’ve also heard mutterings of a smaller, 3.2-liter unit that could spout over 500 horsepower of Munich-fighting fury.

Check in with us regularly as we learn more about the 2015 Cadillac ATS-V in the coming months. We know we prefer GM’s super-sweet, small-block V-8-powered Corvette Stingray over the BMW M4, but only time will tell whether Cadillac can beat the Germans at their own game with an American-bred turbocharged sport sedan.
