Ford this morning announced an all-electric version of the 2015 Ford F-150 pickup truck that will be made from plastic. While that sounds like a shocking departure from the specifications previously announced for the 2015 Ford F-150, which will use gasoline engines and aluminum construction, there's a simple explanation: Ford is talking about the Fisher-Price Power Wheels F-150 made for kids.
While there's an enormous size difference between the Power Wheels model and a real 2015 Ford F-150, the styling of the big truck translates well to the blocky Fisher-Price toy. Ford engineers shared designs for the new F-150 with Fisher-Price engineers more than a year ago -- and nine months before the real F-150 publicly debuted at the 2014 Detroit auto show.

As a result, the toy 2015 Ford F-150 shares its progenitor's brash chrome grille, large C-shaped headlights, big chrome wheels, blocky mirrors, and squared-off taillights. According to Fisher-Price, the Power Wheels truck can travel as rapidly as 5 mph, and is capable of exploring backyards that are just as muddy, rutted, and bumpy as the sorts of terrain a real-world 2015 Ford F-150 might encounter on a ranch or construction site. Real LED headlights, an FM radio, and an auxiliary audio input are optional on the toy.
The Power Wheels 2015 Ford F-150 goes on sale this September for $349.99. Find more information here. The real 2015 Ford F-150, meanwhile, goes on sale later this year and will offer buyers a choice of three engines: a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6, a 3.5-liter V-6, and a 5.0-liter V-8.
