2016 Audi TT Roadster Spied

With the 2016 Audi TT coupe making its debut at the Geneva auto show earlier this year, it was only a matter of time before our spy photographers caught the convertible version testing on public roads.

Like the 2016 Audi TT coupe, the soft-top TT roadster's exterior will be dominated by Audi’s usual blend of clean lines and elegant geometry. Up front is the same trapezoidal front grille and angular front headlights as we first saw on the Audi Allroad Shooting Brake concept in Detroit, while the rear end keeps the same rounded shape as the 2016 Audi TT coupe, with its wide stance, low decklid, and flattened taillights.

The soft-top appears to sit neatly behind the rear seats with typical Audi precision when folded down. We can also see a pair of aluminum hoops behind the seats, as well as black-painted A-pillars. While up, the black soft-top gives the 2016 Audi TT roadster a less slung-back appearance than the sharply-raked coupe, presumably so the soft-top has room to fold down into the cargo compartment.

Powertrains for the 2016 Audi TT roadster should be identical to that of the coupe. The standard TT utilizes the company's omnipresent 2.0-liter turbo-four, in this application good for 230 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque. For the high-performance TTS roadster, we’ll likely see the same hopped-up 2.0-liter turbo tuned to 310 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. Because of the roadster’s added weight, the 0-62 mph sprint might very well drop off from the TT Quattro coupe’s impressive 5.3 second mark, and the same goes for the 4.7-second sprint for the TTS Quattro.

Kenneth, i am curious as to what car would be a better option for that price. the z4 starts at 48 and by the time you are done you are mid to upper 50's. you cannot touch a boxster for that much, you can get into a elk 250 for that but what else is out there in a 2 seater

I always thought the TT should've been a modern-day VW Karmann Ghia (and affordable Miata competitor) than a luxury brand car. Of course, that means nothing now, but starting at $40K and easily topping $50K for a TTS puts it in a league where there are better options, IMHO.
