Recalls: Toyota Sienna, Lexus GS, Suzuki Forenza and Reno

2004-2001 Toyota Sienna

The Problem: For vehicles in cold-weather states, water and road salt can splash through the foam spare tire protector in the rear of the vehicle. This could potentially corrode the spare tire assembly cable. Toyota previously issued a recall in April 2010 for a similar issue in 2004-2010 Sienna minivans, which added a splash protector and an anti-rust agent, but the splash protector may fall from the vehicle. This could cause the spare tire cable to break, causing the spare tire to fall from the vehicle.

The Fix: Toyota has not announced a specific remedy for this problem, but dealers will inspect potentially affected vehicles for corrosion of the spare tire assembly.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: Approximately 370,000 2004-2011 Toyota Sienna minivans registered or sold in cold-weather states.

2004-2008 Suzuki Forenza, 2005-2008 Suzuki Reno

The Problem: The daytime running light (DRL) module may generate excessive heat, possibly melting the headlamp switch or DRL module and increasing the risk of a fire. This recall may be related to the recent 2004-2008 Chevrolet Aveo recall for the same issue.

The Fix: Suzuki has not yet developed a remedy for this issue, but will notify owners of a repair schedule once it does. The manufacturer does not say exactly how it will conduct these repairs given that there are no more Suzuki dealers in the U.S.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 184,244 2004-2008 Suzuki Forenza and 2005-2008 Suzuki Reno models.

2013 Lexus GS

The Problem: Because of a defect in the brake pedal load sensing switch, the braking system could mistakenly activate without driver input while driving and fail to illuminate the rear brake lights.

The Fix: Lexus dealers will replace the brake pedal support assembly in affected vehicles.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: Approximately 10,500 2013 Lexus GS 350 sedans.
