Jeep to Replace Patriot/Compass in ’16, New Grand Wagoneer in ’18

Automobile Magazine will have continuing coverage of the Fiat Chrysler announcements today.

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan – Jeep will replace the Compass and Patriot C-segment models with an all-new, renamed compact sport-utility in the second quarter of 2016, and the much-anticipated Grand Wagoneer three-row luxury SUV will launch in mid-2018, said the brand’s president and CEO, Mike Manley, at Fiat Chrysler’s presentation of its five-year plan on Tuesday morning. Chrysler will become the mainstream brand, and Dodge will concentrate on performance products in the five years ahead, said the brand CEO/presidents.

Dodge will continue to sell the Charger but will emphasize its performance image, while Chrysler has a facelifted 300/300C that will be unveiled at the Los Angeles auto show and will go on sale early next year. Dodge will lose the Grand Caravan minivan by the time a new Chrysler Town & Country is launched in 2017. A plug-in hybrid Chrysler minivan will be added late that year.

The Dodge lineup will get a new Journey in mid-2016, a Journey SRT in early 2017, a Dart SRT in December 2016, and a B-segment sedan and hatchback in early 2018. A new Challenger and Charger, including SRT versions, are due in 2018, said Dodge CEO/President Tim Kuniskis.

Chrysler will launch its compact, called the 100, in 2016. A 200 refresh is scheduled for 2017, a new 300 and 300C will launch in 2018, and a new full-size crossover utility will debut in 2017, with a plug-in hybrid version launching later that year, said Chrysler CEO/President Al Gardner.

Jeep has two great names in Patriot and Compass, so hopefully they will see the wisdom of carrying one of them to the new C-segment model.   Both of those names are perfect for Jeep.

My gut says moving the entire minivan line to Chrysler will be a bad marketing mistake. Unless of course Chrysler is going to become a lower price point brand - which I doubt. This could be the end of Chrysler's dominance of minivan sales:(
@automobilemag @Jeep Hold on, I thought the Renegade was going to replace the Compass/Patriot.
